Wirral Waters Metropolitan College, UK

About the project

About the project:

Wirral Waters Campus is a dedicated built environment, skills and enterprise centre, providing further education and training for local young people. Sitting across the Mersey from Liverpool, this RIBA award winning project is the first exemplar building to be built in an extensive masterplan for the Wirral Waters development. Entirely transformed by a design that reflects its dockland heritage, a once derelict dock edge is now an attractive outdoor space where students and staff can enjoy their breaks while seated among blocks of trees and grasses. Stunning views out over the docks are framed by large steel frames, that were inspired by industrial references in the neighbouring landscape. A vital factor for all external materials is that they were selected for their durability in a harsh maritime environment.
