Meet HILL – designed by Morten & Jonas

The HILL waste bin is as functional as it is aesthetically attractive. It is our latest contribution to a cleaner urban environment and our first partnership with the design duo Morten & Jonas.

Morten Skjærpe Knarrum and Jonas Norheim are the designers behind one of Norway's best-known modern design studios, with many successful products and partnerships in their portfolio.

“We had long discussed a partnership with Vestre and it feels great to know that something has finally come of it. We are also very pleased both with the partnership and the end result,” says Skjærpe Knarrum.

A waste bin might sound like a simple product with a single purpose. Yet waste bins play a prominent role in the settings in which they are placed. And like urban benches, for example, they also remain in situ for a very long time. The designers therefore wanted to create a waste bin which was also attractive to look at.

“Of course, we wanted to create a functional waste bin, but it also had to have character and personality which harmonised with its function,” says Skjærpe Knarrum.

An extra design element which the landscape architects can play around with is the fact that the actual container and the top are completely separate from each other. They can therefore be powder-coated in different colours, enabling interesting contrasts and effects to be created.

Many functional requirements have to be taken into consideration when designing a waste bin. It must be easy to throw refuse into them and it must be easy for refuse collectors to empty them. Like other waste bins from Vestre, HILL can be supplied with a smart sensor system which sends a message when the bin needs emptying - a solution which is not only smart in terms of the environment, but also saves time and resources.

The HILL is available with either one or two containers for waste sorting, and a version with three containers will also be launched later this year. HILL is supplied as standard in hot-dip galvanised steel with a lifetime anti-rust guarantee and can be powder-coated in 200 different RAL colours.
